Gas and Power By using electric and gas there are ways to help save energy and your wallet! Whether or not you’re a revered Mother Nature fan or not, reducing the amount of energy you use is not only good for the planet, but for you bank account as well. You may have noticed that gasoline and energy prices are on the rise and they’re not coming down anytime soon. There are, however, a few steps you can take at home to help lower the cost of your electricity and gas bills. One small thing you can do to save energy is change your light bulbs to compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL’s). CFL’s will provide high quality light that uses smart technology and design. They require less energy, but last longer than your typical incandescent light bulb. If every household in the U.S. replaced just one light bulb with a CFL, it would prevent enough pollution that equals removing one million vehicles off the road. Kind of amazing, right? There are plenty of little things that can be done to help save energy. Also, consider the good you’re doing by driving to work alone in your SUV. Another way to cut costs is setting your thermostat to only heat and cool when you’re at home. What’s the point of running your A.C. or heat when you’re not even home? Keep it at something reasonable. A good temperature for the summer is low 70’s and the same goes for winter, low 70’s. If you have an old school thermostat, manually turn it up or down when you leave and return home each day. Also, don’t heat or cool the outside. Make sure all your windows and doors are shut tight and sealed evenly. If you have a window that’s letting in cold air in the winter or warm air in the summer, let your landlord or apartment maintenance team know right away to get it fixed. Once again, there’s no point in paying to heat/cool something you’re not using.
